How can somebody fear AND love God?

Have you ever read the book 1984 by George Orwell? About Big Brother? The protagonist is living in a society dictated by the figure of Big Brother who knows all, sees all, tolerates no deviation yet tells the citizens they are loved. In the end he tries to rebel, they catch him and torture him to instill fear of Big Brother in him. At the end of the book he is so brainwashed he equates fear as love. A Christian (or Muslim or any religious person with a similar doctrine) is like this. To have someone love you but is terrified of you is ******* sick and sadistic. That is pure delusion.
