Omniscient inconsistency?

Does it make sense that an all knowing God would send you to eternal damnation for seeking knowledge beyond the writings of ordinary men? Even if according to those ordinary men, their writings are the words of an omniscient God? The notion of an all knowing God, suggests the universal importance of knowledge, does it not? It seems the authors of the doctrine dont want it scrutinized. But an all knowing God would know the truth is invulnerable to scrutiny. Right? Why not seek understanding while youre seeking understanding?
