What is the highest score on the SATs?

Always on the tv, for example sitcoms such as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Sister, Sister, and My Wife and Kids, it said that the highest score was a 1600. But in real life recently, my teacher told me that it is actually 2200? or something like that? Was the tv lying or did I mishear them, were they talking about something else and I didn't catch on? Like, I don't understand this inconsistency.
